German Shepherd or
GSD serve as an ideal family dog. They are considered as
good house dogs because of their calm nature and caring
temperament... The German Shepherd is an intelligent dog breed
The largest percentage of police dogs all over the world are
GSD's.
Those considering a German Shepherd Dog as a family addition should
make sure that this breed is the best fit for the situation. These dogs are
strong in body, spirit, and mind. They need much attention, love,
and firm guidance as they grow -- which they do quite quickly.

Home-made Dog Food Recipe
This recipe is my personal favorite and very nutritious. It's
so good and healthy that I have used it (with a little extra seasoning) to
make delicious pot pies.
1-1½ lbs. Fresh Meat (small diced or ground)
(chicken², pork, turkey or beef)
1 tsp. Garlic Sea Salt
4 cups Water
2 tbls Butter or Margerine
|
1 cup White Rice
1- 14oz Can Chicken Broth
1 cup Frozen Peas & Carrots
1 cup Instant Potatoe flakes
(or ground Oat Meal)
|
Brown meat season with garlic sea
salt and set aside. In 4qt. pot combine chicken broth, butter and 3 cups
water. Bring to boil. Add rice, then cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer
for 15 min.
Add cooked meat, Peas & Carrots and 1 cup water. Bring to boil on medium
heat. Stir in instant potatoes and remove from heat. Let cool for one hour.
Transfer thickened mixture into containers and let cool completely before
refrigerating. Mix will last for up to 1 week. Makes about 7 servings. Your
mileage may vary.
To serve; Warm about 1 cup of mix in microwave for 1 min. Add a little water
to thin and mix with 1-2 cups of dry, grain-free, dog food.³

Notes; |
² An excellent and inexpensive chicken cut is the leftover
fat from hand trimmed chicken breast and can be found at most grocery stores.
If you can't find this, ask the stores meat manager for it. Watch the discount
and clearance sections. |
³ German Shepherd Dogs are allergic to corn and corn
direvitives. Use only 'Grain-free' dry food to prevent severe skin irritations
and 'califlower ear'. A very good brand is 4-Health and can only be found
at Tractor Supply stores. 4-Health is relativity inexpensive and has a good
selection to chose from. The CostCo brand dog foods are also a good alternitive. |
Supplements:
About every other batch of home-made food I make, I add 4-6 Fish Oil capsules
to the mix before stirring in the Potato Flakes. |
