Foundation
:
Base Location and Orientation

Preamble;
The first thing you will need to do is find a good location to build your base. Anywhere on the island is fine, but higher ground is perferable.
Do not build your base in open water as the enemy can swim under
the defenses.
Setting the first foundation piece is very important. Use the rotate feature to turn the foundation highlight until it's aligned the way you want.

You may need to move a bit back or forward, or to the side to get the right height and angle.

Depending on the time of day, looking at the shadow it casts will tell you which way your base will be facing.

Foundation:
Front/Back of the base

Once you determine the orientaion, place the first two foundation pieces.

The short sides will the front and back of your base.

In this case, built on top of the big rock, the front leeds down the gentle side of the hill. The Back side is a cliff face and not easy to climb.

Foundation:
Setting the entry

Add a Metal Ladder to what is front of your base.

This will be your primary base entrance without having to jump up to the platform.

Take a little time to find the best path from the shoreline to the ladder.

Foundation:
Battering Wall

Add a Solid Metal Wall to the back side using the rotate feature (mouse wheel) to turn it to the smoother side (without the cross members showing).

This wall will be the first target of the enemy AI. When the mutants show up, this is the structure piece they will target. And there within lies the trap.

Add a Metal Ladder to the inside of the battering wall for accessing your base.

Then place the first floor piece.

If you were attacked right now, you should be safe on this 1st floor piece.
